Michelle is an artist in Brooklyn, New York who specializes in oil painting. She grew up in Houston, Texas, and has lived in New York City for about 10 years.
She began painting under the guidance of Chinese artist Xinsheng Wang at seven years old. She has since forged her own creative language, a rich and dynamic style which draws from freeform Chinese ink painting and Western oil painting traditions.
She considers her paintings hallmarks of her experiences and relationship to the world. She paints to explore and process memory, feelings, and daily life. Outside the studio, she is committed to sketching rigorously from life. She is a formal and curious painter, drawn to expressive landscapes, abstracts, and figurative work.
She greatly appreciates her family, friends, and teachers for supporting her, especially all her art teachers: Xinsheng Wang, Mrs. Brock, Mrs. Daniels, Mr. Stockman, Jeff Gottfried, Tim Vanya, Miguel Cardenas, Van Hanos, Dana DeGuilio, Jon Kessler, Mrs. Freeman, and Mrs. Chen. None of what she creates would have been possible without all of these wonderful people.
“Painting feels like the most effective way to fully see and create myself, and in doing so, connect with my world and other people.”
